FAQs

  • You can book a shoot on the “Book Now” tab. I recommend scheduling a consult with me first to make sure we are a good fit to work together. You may also email me if that’s easier for you danabtatum@gmail.com or if you need more flexible availability. When you book, you’ll pay a $100 deposit to secure your time in my schedule. This fee is nonrefundable, but it guarantees a shoot with me for up to a year even if we later have to reschedule for whatever reason.

It’s important to me that our vision be in alignment with each other, as I view this work as my art. I really want to work in collaboration with people who are into making images together that we are both excited about.

  • Yes, we can reschedule for any reason (for weather we plan day B), but I would reschedule for a weekday time slot. I’m willing to be flexible if my schedule allows, but I cannot guarantee another weekend day shoot during a busy season. If it must be on a weekend, we will discuss availability as the need arises. Once you’ve paid your deposit, it secures your shoot with me for up to a year.

  • Yes, since I rely so heavily on natural light for my film photography, I am open to rescheduling- however that also depends on our goals for your shoot. I am comfortable using flash, shooting indoors, in overcast light, and harsh afternoon light too. Golden hour is nice of course- it’s a different mood. I don’t need for it to be golden hour but I want you to be happy with your photos so this is up for discussion. I’ll check in with you about the weather 24 hours or less before your shoot.

  • I mail my film out to be developed and scanned- this process can take up to 2 weeks. You will be able to download your images directly from an online gallery about 2-3 weeks after the shoot.

I recommend that you download your full gallery, as I will delete the gallery after 3 months.

  • Yes- almost. When we’re shooting film, I will deliver all your rolls except for the ones I deem complete failures for whatever reason up to my discretion. If the image is useable, I will send it to you. The images are yours!

  • Yes, if needed I will provide gentle direction and suggestion. With young children, it often works best to just go with the flow. The shoot can even thrive off of chaos. We can certainly attempt to get everyone looking at the camera- but I don’t like to force it if my models are unwilling. My goal is for this to be a fun experience for everyone. And artistically I often prefer the in-between moments when everyone ignores me and looks more relaxed.

  • I ask clients to sign a contract and model release form that acknowledges that the images are owned and copyrighted by Dana Tatum and will have the right to display images for portfolio and website use unless discussed otherwise. The language in the contract is meant to protect my right to my work and from reproduction without my consent.

That being said- I would not feel comfortable sharing images that you don’t give me consent to share. Especially when the images are of a sensitive nature, featuring children and/or nudity. I never share images without you seeing the gallery first- and then I’ll ask you if there is anything you don’t feel comfortable with me sharing. I do censor nudity for social media, and I’m happy to crop out faces if that makes my clients more comfortable with sharing. It will be a discussion we have post shoot. If your images are being featured somewhere (like on socials or in a photography magazine for example), I do my best to let you know so that it’s not a surprise.

If the people in my photographs are not paying clients, the understanding is that we ae in a model & artist relationship. I will have more freedom to share those images as they are only owned by me. Of course I will provide the model with their images and give them permission to share but they may not use them for any other purpose beyond personal sharing or in a professional modeling portfolio.
